Energy Efficiency Incentive Programs

Medicine Hat HAT Smart Program

The HAT Smart program offers incentives to property owners and builders interested in making energy-conscious upgrades when constructing new homes or renovating existing residences. To qualify, residents must be electric and natural gas customers of the City of Medicine Hat.

Incentives vary year by year, as new funding sources and technologies are introduced and new incentives are released each year in January. Their programs aim to make saving money and energy easy and accessible.

Federal Green Homes Program

Homeowners across Canada may be eligible for the Federal Green Homes Program grant of up to $5,000 to purchase and install energy-efficient home upgrades. In order to qualify for funding, residents must complete an EnerGuide home evaluation to access rebates on insulation, window and door replacements, and more.

Federal GST/HST New Housing Rebate

Homeowners may be eligible for the Federal GST/HST New Housing Rebate to recover a portion of the GST or HST that they pay for newly constructed or substantially renovated homes. To qualify, the home must be used as the individual’s or their relation’s primary place of residence. The new housing rebate is especially useful if you’re making a large investment in energy efficiency upgrades.
